Life of a Company XO

For those of you who don’t know, I was accepted to the AGR program as a Company Operations Officer in Kansas City! Exciting right? Well, this is what I’ve learned so far:

1- Being in a Route Clearance Company as a female is tough.

⁃ it’s fairly new to have females in this type of position, so I get it. But you can’t d*ck measure with someone that… doesn’t have one 🙃

2- Nobody Cares When You Do a Good Job.

⁃ That’s right. Nobody gives a crap about your good job. If you had to fly By the seat of your pants, cool. But that victory is yours alone. You produced the intended product, and that’s all that matters to the Officer asking for it.

3- EVERYONE CARES WHEN YOU SCREW THE POOCH

⁃ I hate being on the naughty list. Like. A lot. And yet sometimes there’s no avoiding it. You (your company) is now “that guy” and you’re all of a sudden scrambling to figure out a). What the hell went wrong, b). How do I fix it, c). How do I make this situation hurt less than it already does.

4- If you’re a female in a Combat MOS, you’re only one of two things.

⁃ A slut

⁃ A b*tch

⁃ No, there is no in between.

5- You tend to take a lot on your own.

⁃ mission first right?

⁃ Then you realize you have bitten off more than you might be able to chew.. oh well you’re stuck now.

6- As long as you show you care about Soldiers, they will bend over backwards for you.

⁃ please show them some love. Take the time to talk to your Joes. You won’t regret it.

  1. Great post. I served with your brother 2013. Now I switch over to AGR. Gonna be alot on your plate as an AGR/XO but everyone will look up to you. Trust your NCO’s and look out for them and they will take care of you. Also network, network, network! AGR is a small world.
